PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the students and staff of the Saddleback Valley Unified School District. During this time of budget cuts and economical changes our organization has continued to focus on the needs of all children in our district.

I truly appreciate all of your hard work in distributing legislative writing information to parents and staff. Our voices were heard in Sacramento. We can very proud of our accomplishments this year. Thank you to Debbi Granata for doing an outstanding job this year with chairing legislation for our council.

Please make sure you review the Saddleback Valley PTA Council 2002-2003 slate of officers in this newsletter. Please join me in thanking these wonderful ladies for accepting the nomination to serve our council for the next year. They each have developed great leadership skills. Officer elections will be held at the March 14, 2002 council meeting. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.

Four students from our council have won at Fourth District PTA in Reflections. Their entries have already been shipped to the California State PTA for judging. I can't tell you how proud I am of each of these students and their work. Our council had its first Reflections high school entry this year. I have no memory of our council ever having had a Reflections entry make it all the way to the California State PTA. So if you know any of the students, please make sure you congratulate them for a job well done.

I look forward to seeing each of you at the February 28 council meeting. Liz Parker from the Orange County Board of Education will be our guest speaker.

-Karen Kirby (a.k.a. "Kirby Mamma"), President

SACRAMENTO SAFARI

The delegates representing our council leave March 19 for Fourth District's SACRAMENTO SAFARI. This is an opportunity to speak personally with local legislators, and to hear other legislators, as well as PTA leaders, speak to issues that are currently being discussed in Sacramento. PTA continues to advocate for its children and the right to a fair and free education. As we compete with the world crisis and the energy crisis that currently affect our state and our nation, we need to be advocated for education at our local frontlines.

There is a Sacramento Safari Orientation meeting scheduled March 5 at the Orange Unified School District office. Registrants will be receiving a flyer with details.

Debbi Granata, Legislation Chairman

FINAL CALL FOR AUDITS

For those units who were unable to submit their audits at the January council meeting, (which was most units) don't forget to bring them to the February Council Meeting. Audits should be submitted with the adoption date, which must correspond to your unit Association meeting minutes for January or February, whenever it was presented. Adopted audits submitted in February will be eligible for incentive points.

Dolores Winchell, Auditor
